Some things to keep in mind when you are designing HTML files
- Keep the colors (and your background image) simple so that the text can still be read. Make sure the contrast between the background and the text is
high enough. Note that if you use a very small font the colors should stand out even more. There are many examples of websites who have a very nice
background and who are virtually unreadable.
- Keep your images small. If you have to include a large graphic file, warn your visitors for it. Also keep in mind that may people use a non-graphic
browser or turn the images off for speed so be sure to add alt descriptions to your images. Moving gifs are a nice touch, but if you use too many
of them they will only slow down the loading of your page!
- Make sure there are no grammar or typing errors in your text. Even if you write in a foreign language try to use correct grammar.
- If you have created multiple, connected, pages be sure to use a consistent lay-out unless they are very very very different from eachother
in subject.
- Be sure to test your page with at least two browser (recommended: Netscape Navigator and
Microsoft Internet Explorer) and, if possible, some more. It is also a good idea to test it with
different versions of browsers. The differences between Navigator 3 and Navigator 4 for example are very big.
